Boho Valentine’s Day Tablescape with Prima Pavé Non-Alcoholic Champagne Bar

Are you looking for a DIY Valentine’s Tablescape idea? Are you striving for an eco-friendly Valentine’s Day? Read on for how to easily use thrift store finds to build a beautiful boho tablescape complete with a non-alcoholic champagne bar!

Eco-friendly Boho Valentine’s Day Tablescape with Prima Pave Non-alcoholic Champagne Bar

There are three components to the perfect Valentine’s Day at our house: a fancy dinner, wine, and flowers. (These are actually my three favorite things any day of the week, but who’s counting.)

However, did you know the average American plans to spend $175.41 on Valentine’s Day gifts for their partner? And did you know that Americans will spend 2 billion dollars on flowers, most of which are imported roses grown with excessive pesticides?

The numbers are a little staggering, so this year, we’re doing things a little differently to save money and prioritize our health and environmental goals! Since we spent a decent amount of money over the holidays, we’ve decided to stay in and cook an elegant at-home meal together instead of paying for parking, dinner, and wine at an overpriced Charleston restaurant.

Just because you’re taking a different approach this Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you have to tone down the decor or festivities! You can, in fact, go big and go home (har, har) with this boho Valentine’s tablescape featuring:

  •  a few common thrift store finds
  •  oversized flowers made from old tissue paper
  •  a Lazy Susan
  •  my favorite non-alcoholic wine, Prima Pavé, at the center.

Did you just come to a screeching halt? Did I say non-alcoholic wine? Yes, honey! While we drink (and love!) wine, we’re also huge fans of the non-alcoholic spirit movement. Hangovers are absolutely not a joke at the age of 36; I will spend most of the day in bed with the covers over my head. It’s very hard to “adult” from the blanket tent. Fortunately, the non-alcoholic wine industry has come leaps and bounds, and I’ve got a stash of crisp, sparkling Prima Pavé  leftover from “Dry January!”

Whether you opt for a leaded, unleaded, or combination champagne bar, you’re going to love this colorful, whimsical Valentine’s Day tablescape!

Suggested Materials for a Boho Valentine’s Day Tablescape with Prima Pavé Non-Alcoholic Champagne Bar

For the table:

  • Pink tablecloth
  • Pink striped napkins (or another pattern)
  • An iron
  • Wicker chargers (or large plates)
  • Vintage china
  • Vintage glasses and wine glasses
  • Knives, forks, and spoons
  • Lazy Susan
  • Small bowls or vintage sorbet cups
  • Fresh berries as garnish
  • An assortment of sparkling beverages
  • Glass votive holders and votives

Note: I got all of our plates, bowls, chargers, glasses, and china for less than $20 at the neighborhood thrift store, which also has plenty of beautiful vintage table linens for less than $5.

Mixing colors and patterns will add to the boho feel of this tablescape. Don’t be afraid to play with this one a bit!

Though our Lazy Susan was handmade from the reclaimed lid of a bourbon barrel, there are tons of Lazy Susans listed on Facebook Marketplace in our area. You can also borrow pieces from neighbors or friends to save money.

Assembling Your Boho Valentine’s Day Tablescape

Note: I have to give a little shout-out to my momma for helping me bring this beautiful tablescape to life at record speed (and for teaching me how and why one should always hoard used tissue paper).

  1. Iron the tablecloth and napkins as needed. Fold your napkins into long, equally-sized rectangles, and place them in the center of each chair, allowing for 2-3 inches to overhang the edge of the table.
  2. Then place your chargers on your napkins and adjust the napkins as needed. I found that it was aesthetically game-changing to have about 2 inches of the striped napkin material extend at the top of the charger toward the centerpiece. It added so much more color and interest to the finished tablescape instead of having an empty space there.
  3. Add your plates and glasses. Whether you’re serving non-alcoholic or traditional wine, remember to put out a water glass and a wine glass so everyone stays hydrated.
  4. Put the Lazy Susan in the center of the table.
  5. Then make your tissue paper flowers. This DIY tissue paper flower video is super helpful! Start by ironing your paper. Use a hotter setting, work quickly, and don’t use the steam function. It is absolutely ok if your paper is still somewhat wrinkled because it will just add more texture to the flower petals.
  6. Then cut your paper into equally sized rectangles. The video tutorial suggests 8” by 4” inch squares of tissue paper, but this process is very forgiving. My mom and I did 7” by 8” for larger flowers.
  7. Stack your tissue paper into tidy piles of about 7 sheets. If you’re feeling fancy, you can put multiple colors in a pile for a fun, multi-dimensional effect.
  8. Then fold your tissue paper accordion-style so that the short end of your stack becomes the length of the accordion. (Again, I recommend watching the video above.) Tie a piece of thread, twine, or dental floss around the center of the accordion. Trim the ends of the paper accordion into scallops, if desired, and pull the pages down to create your flower.
  9. Repeat as desired! We played with different layers of tissue paper and different sizes, and our sweet spot was 11 tissue paper flowers of various sizes.
  10. Add your flowers to the Valentine’s Day tablescape so that the largest blooms are next to the Lazy Susan but not touching it, so that they won’t get caught up in the Lazy Susan when your guests turn it. Arrange the rest of the blooms to trail down the length of the table, reserving 3 or 4 flowers for the Lazy Susan.
  11. Now it’s time to make your leaves! Trace a leaf pattern that’s an appropriate size to pair with your flowers (it will probably be bigger than you think) on your cardstock. Use a vector if you’re shy about free-hand drawing. Cut out your cardstock leaf and trace it on your green tissue paper.
  12. Cut out your leaves and tuck them under your tissue paper flowers as desired.
  13. Then add your votives around your tissue paper floral arrangement, keeping some space between the tops of the votives and the paper (i.e.: don’t burn your house down, please). Light your candles.
  14. Add your champagne, wine, or beverages to the center of the Lazy Susan.
  15. Rinse your berries, add them to the bowls or sorbet cups, and add them to the Lazy Susan.
  16. Pop those bottles and enjoy!

Happy Valentine’s Day! Once the holiday is over, use the tips below to disassemble your Valentine’s Day tablescape responsibly:

  • Recycle the glass beverage bottles or use them in your next date night tablescape
  • Eat, freeze, or compost leftover berries. (Use the tips in this post to freeze them easily.)
  • Keep the glassware, china, and bowls, give it away in a Buy Nothing group, donate it to Goodwill, or sell it on Facebook Marketplace.
  • See above for the wicker chargers, or paint them and enjoy them as a boho basket wall.
  • Keep your tissue paper flowers for another project, or hot glue the blooms and leaves to floral wire or green pipe cleaners and give them away as an everlasting bouquet!
