When I need a quick and reliable dinner option, tacos with this homemade seasoning mix are always my go-to. Many store-bought taco seasoning mixes are filled with junk and chemicals. Try this homemade taco seasoning mix that is super simple and sure to please!
Each weekend, I look ahead to the upcoming week and plan our meals for the next several days. I consider what’s already in our cabinets and fridge as well as on the calendar. On nights with no activities, I tend to make more traditional family meals. On evenings when we have sports, piano or other plans, I default to one of a handful of tried and tried family favorites. Tacos is always on the short list of easy meals that draw few complaints.
For many years, I relied on store-bought taco seasoning. As I began reading ingredient descriptions, I realized that many store-bought taco seasoning mixes are filled with a host of ingredients whose names I cannot pronounce or appear to be unfamiliar chemicals. I knew I could do better with just a bit of research about the spices and seasonings that comprise a good taco flavor.
In my quick search, I stumbled on this very easy taco seasoning recipe that relies on everyday spices we keep in our pantry. Often with help from J, I spend five minutes preparing a large batch of seasoning mix that will last for a couple of months.
This particular combination comes with a bit of kick. If your family members are fans of a little bit of spice, you’ll love this recipe as is. You can always reduce the amount of chili powder or crushed red peppers to make the flavor a bit more mild.
A pleasant family dinner is so wonderful. The alternative, however, can ruin an entire evening. My boys can be hit or miss about new meals I try at dinner, but tacos with this homemade seasoning are always a reliable go-to that pleases palettes and fills bellies.
Soon, I’ll be sharing my favorite way to store a large batch to have on hand and make dinner prep even easier. Be sure to check it out.
Now go enjoy some delicious tacos!
