Yesterday morning, for the first time since moving to Philadelphia, I checked the weather when I woke up in the morning. Thus far, our Philly adventure has been a pretty steamy one. We’ve enjoyed predictable summer heat and sun just about everyday. But this morning, as I walked out to the car, I felt a nice crisp chill in the air, a signal that fall and cooler weather are approaching.
After many years in Chicago, where sun and warm weather are hard to come by, I appreciate the sweltering summer days. But I still love fall more than any other season. That crisp air makes my day, and I definitely prefer pants and cozy sweatshirt over shorts and a tank top.
With cooler weather on the horizon, our boys needed warmer footwear. J has the “luxury” of wearing hand-me-downs, but T gets the new stuff (which isn’t usually “new” but only “new to him,” courtesy of plenty of secondhand shops). This time, though, I searched high and low for the right pair of boots for T in the secondhand shops and couldn’t find what I wanted.
So I headed to Roma Boots.
Roma Boots set out on a mission to ‘give poverty the boot.’ For each pair of boots purchased, Roma supplies a pair of boots to a child in need around the world. To date, they’ve provided boots to children in over 20 countries. While one-for-one programs aren’t always as wonderful as they sound, I appreciate that Roma Boots also donates 10% of proceeds to fund education, which certainly could use a boost in so many countries around the world.
T loved his new boots. I’m sure that was due, in part, to encouraging him to jump in puddles. What little kid doesn’t like that?!
