Easy Homemade Bread Crumbs

Don't waste stale bread. Put it to good use and make homemade bread crumbs.

  1. Preheat over to 300° F
  2. Cut up the loaf of bread into cubes (about 1" squares) and spread them out on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake at 300° F for 30-40 minutes. Some recipes I found called for just 10-15 minutes in the oven. I think the length of time to bake heavily depends on how moist the bread is, so bake times could really vary. Ultimately, you want to be sure the bread is very dry or it will get mushy and won't process into small enough pieces when you crumble it in the food processor.
  4. Once dry, remove the bread cubes from the pan and allow to cool slightly.
  5. Place cubes in a food processor and mix on high until bread crumbs are desired size. I wanted my bread crumbs to be pretty small, so I processed the cubes for about 45 - 60 seconds.
  6. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a month.
