Last fall, I headed to Brooklyn, NY for a wedding for one of M’s good friends. Just a few months post-baby #2, not a whole lot in my closet fit me. I’m a horrible planner when it comes to outfits for special occasions. I
sort of totally live in denial that it takes more planning than dressing for an average day.
Piece of unsolicited advice: I’m wrong! Every time! Planning ahead to find something that makes me feel great (especially when I’m seeing friends I don’t often visit) always boosts confidence. Please don’t follow my lazy lead on this one!
None-the-less, I got lucky and had a few minutes to dash into a Nordstrom Rack in Brooklyn and bought this Missoni dress for the wedding. I felt a million times better in it than the other options I packed. “Style Crisis” averted.
This past weekend, we jetted off to Boston with the boys for another wedding of one of M’s friends who I hadn’t seen in years. Again, I procrastinated and found myself in a style panic on Tuesday night before we left wondering what to bring. You’d think I’d learn!
Long story short, I tossed this dress in my bag and relied on it again to “save the style day.” It’s pretty simple, but the outdoor wedding was also quite casual so it worked out just fine.
Mixed in with managing the boys, odd schedules, and a trip to urgent care (everyone’s just fine now), the whole weekend ended up being a bit of circus. But we got to catch up with some family that live in Boston, see lots of old friends, and enjoy some gorgeous New England fall weather. I’ll take it!
Style Study Tip: Plan ahead for fancy occasions. Often, the ‘same old same old’ you know so well in your closet isn’t going to cut it. Even if it works well enough, you may not feel great standing next to everyone else dressed to the nines. Invest a few minutes thinking about what you’ll wear in advance and you’ll earn a heap of a return on style confidence in exchange.
