Welcome back this orange and navy dress to the blog! I’ve worn it a few times, including with a growing baby bump and then post-baby as a new mom of two little boys. It’s still hanging in there, which was the intention. I bought the dress just after finding out I was pregnant with my second one. I knew it would be one of the few non-maternity pieces that could withstand pregnancy yet also be perfectly back in business when my body returned to business as usual.
For those of you who’ve had babies, you know that what takes nine months to change takes nine months to go back to (almost) normal. Some things will never be the same… (R.I.P. pre-baby tatas). But for those things that do spring back to regular ol’ life, it’s a good while before you feel like yourself again.
My second little guy is just over nine months old now. As you can imagine, I’m finally starting to fully feel like myself, at least as much as I’ll ever feel the same. My eyes still burn a bit more than before babies and look like I’m high on drugs from the redness due to limited and interrupted sleep. I’m hoping some day that subsides. Little J won’t be sixteen and still waking twice each night, so I suspect sometime between now and then our sleeping patterns will regain some semblance of biological normalcy.
My pre-baby abs got demolished by two c-sections. Those will never be totally back to normal no matter how many times I hit the gym. M and I occasionally make time to work out together in our apartment, even if the boys are awake. I shared a few of the ways we work out at home with kiddos a few months back. I know one day (maybe a long while down the road), I’ll at least regain the strength I had even if those abs don’t look exactly the same.
While so many things are mostly back to normal, I have a handful of dresses that haven’t yet come close to fitting. We’ll call them my “target dresses” I guess. Despite all the maternity changes, some permanent and others temporary, this dress might be the single item in my closet that stuck with me through it all. For that, it’s one of my most loved pieces in my wardrobe (and it’s so comfortable to boot)!
Whether it’s pregnancy or some other reason for changes in our bodies over time, here’s a shout out to all those things in each of our closets that sticks with us through thick and thin. Cheers to versatile, non-judgmental wardrobe workhorses!!

This week, I chose to feature Maria from The Classified Chic. The color combination in her outfit makes me swoon (and she’s an accountant, so that holds a special place in my nerd heart). Stop on over to check out what else she’s styling!
