We’re big fans of donuts in our house. We periodically make weekend mornings a little bit sweeter with a trip to one of the many local donut shops in our neighborhood. Also, my boys love to bring in donuts for their daycare teachers to show them a little love around holidays.
Inspired by a new donut pan in my kitchen, I’ve taken an interest in trying out some of my own donut recipes to mix things up a bit. Remember these pumpkin donuts? My family found them rather tasty, or at least that’s what they told me.
While Christmas may have just passed, stores have already stocked their shelves with Valentine’s Day goodness. I took this as an opportunity to try out a little chocolate covered strawberry donut recipe that will make a perfect treat for the boys to bring to their teachers at school. I don’t always have time to make everything entirely from scratch, so I opted for store-bought strawberry cake mix and chocolate frosting topped with M&M’s® Strawberry to keep the recipe easy and quick.
I also grabbed a couple Valentine’s Day cards to share with the teachers a quick note of appreciation. Those of you who are working parents can appreciate just how much time the teachers spend with your children.
Sometimes it’s a little sad to think they might spend more waking hours with my own kids than me. But I always remind myself of the importance of my career to our family’s well-being and the quality of care they receive at daycare. Their teachers develop some pretty great curricula and have certainly taught my boys far more than I ever would have thought to teach them were they home with me.
I know that’s not true for all families, but in our house, daycare seems to be the best option for our circumstances.
So as a little token of our appreciation for all the teachers do for our boys and our family, we like to bring in periodic small gifts to say thanks.
Maybe you have someone in your life who would be a perfect recipient for a sweet little chocolate and strawberry indulgence too? Or maybe you just want to make them for yourself? Probably both…
