“Shake, shake, shake, Mommy!”I heard these words from my two year old son last week about eight billion times. You’re thinking he was asking me to dance? Wrong. (And thank goodness, I’m a terrible dancer. So bad, in fact, that I’m pretty sure even my son can recognize this lack of rhythm. But no worries, I have no plans to quit my day job for a gig as a back up dancer.) In making this request, my son wanted to watch his new favorite music video on repeat, over, and over, and over, and over again.
What song, might you ask? Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off.He might have discovered this through me… an avid fan of just about all of Taylor’s songs. I may have the musical taste of a 13 year old girl. But I’ll own it, and I’ll sing my heart out while I drive down the highway in rush hour traffic. I bet many of you have been there and done that, even if you don’t admit it publicly. But moving on…
As I watched this music video on repeat all of the aforementioned eight billion times, I started to imagine “work versions” of the many outfits Taylor wore throughout the video. And on a whim of ridiculous judgment, I decided to sport all my imaginary creations in real life. For clarification, I in no way intended to replicate her outfits. Sorry guys, booty shorts, modern dance leotards, and stiff tulle tutus don’t meet my company’s dress code (surprise, surprise). Instead, I opted to use them as inspiration for building new outfits from my same old, same old closet. And thus came to life my week of outfits inspired by my new favorite jam.
So without further ado, take a peak at Taylor’s video and see if you can spot which costume inspired today’s outfit comprised of a denim(ish) skirt, leopard, black and gold. Ready, set, watch!
