Let’s be blunt. White jeans are not for the faint of heart. They aren’t easy to buy, and they definitely aren’t easy to wear (at least not well). Remember when I even wrote these bad boys a little letter?
I’m, by no means, purporting to be “standing” here having rocked them perfectly. Rest assured, it’s been a long road to get back into these darn things! I have
pulled them on tried to pull them on many times over the last 6-9 months to no avail. But alas, I finally got back into them without them feeling painted onto my legs and so tight they were basically see through (because ladies, that’s a “thing” with white jeans). When they’re too tight, they become transparent. We all know transparent pants are totally… not… cool!
While I used to be more of a gym rat (the exercise class type), I just don’t make it to the studios anymore. As I’ve shared before, work and family responsibilities far surpass a trip to the gym on my priority list. Instead, I’ve made a stronger commitment to being generally healthy in my everyday life (lots of steps, healthier food, you know the drill).
My Jawbone UP3 ~ It’s on Sale!
My latest move in that department, a long anticipated one, came when I recently purchased my Jawbone UP3. It sat on my wishlist for a very long time. I finally bit the bullet and bought it about three weeks ago. I have been wearing it everyday, and I totally friggin’ love it!
Heads Up: It’s currently on sale. I paid for full price for it… argh! But if you’re thinking this is in your wheel house, snatch it up before the price heads north again. Though I must admit that I’m loving it enough that I think it’s worth the full price.
Why I Chose This One
Options abound for wearable health tracking technology. I researched several choices and the Jawbone UP3 consistently sat near the top of the recommendation lists. It had some competition for “best in class,” but it far surpasses the other brands with respect to aesthetic appeal, at least in my opinion. It feels much sleeker and prettier than so many of the bulkier and clunkier options!
The benefits of beauty cost it some functionality with respect to the wristband itself. Other than a few small flashing lights to let you know it’s on and in either awake or sleep mode, it won’t tell you much else.
All the information and analysis happens on the app on my phone, which I’ve found to be great! I didn’t want a face or screen on my wristband, so this fit the bill perfectly for me . If you’re looking for something that will provide more information on its own without the app on your phone, the Jawbone UP3 might not be your best option.
Make Life a Game to Be Happier
Scientific research shows that turning our lives into a series of games and small victories makes us happier and healthier. You can hear more about this in Jane McGonigal’s segment of the Ted Radio Hour podcast Press Play. You can also watch her full Ted talk, if that strikes your fancy.
I’ve found this to be entirely true. The activity tracker makes walking 10,000 steps a day a game for me. Every 2,000 steps, my phone congratulates me for completing ‘one level’ on my way to ‘beat the giant dragon before finding victory at the Castle of 10,000 Steps.’ McGonigal’s research suggests those small victories make me happier and encourage me to move on to the next level, the next 2,000 step increment. This satisfaction and motivation doesn’t even include the pure and direct health benefits of the steps themselves.
Without question, my Jawbone UP3 has been keepin’ me accountable to make sure I keep on keepin’ on toward my goal to take 10,000 steps a day. I get so excited when I hit my goal of 10,000. I was so pumped the first day it happened that I took a screen shot with my phone (I’m such a dork).
It also tells me I don’t sleep enough, but I try to ignore that…
Cross This Off Your To Do List: If you’ve already got an activity tracker, let me know what you think. If not, check out the Jawbone UP3 and consider if wearing one might help make you a little happier, healthier, and more accountable to your fitness. It’s a small investment in the giant matter of your personal health!
Cheers to feeling great and fitting into white jeans!
