Today, I’d like to introduce you to a web-based service that I use and love, StyleUp. Each evening, I receive an email from StyleUp with my local weather for the following day and an outfit suggestion to match the forecast. I don’t love every outfit they send me, and I can’t always gather pieces already in my own closet to compile the attire inspiration. But I have been quite impressed with the number of fabulous suggestions I have received and regularly use to put together some simple yet fabulous outfits.
As I write this, I wonder if I should keep this little gem a secret; after all, a fantastic outfit idea in your inbox from StyleUp each night may mean you no longer need my two cents (haha). But I will take my chances and tell you all about this service, because I truly look forward to getting my personalized email in my inbox each night just before hitting the hay. (For the record, this post is not a collaboration with StyleUp, only an unsolicited profession of my love of them. Other than as a generic recipient of their nightly emails, they do not know me; and they are unaware I am writing this love letter to share with you.)
A few months back, I joined the site (for which no fee is charged) and answered just a few simple questions to enable them to gauge my preferences. I told them the city in which I live (to determine the forecast), whether I wanted professional or casual outfit suggestions, and just a couple more questions about which styles I liked and disliked. That night, I received my first email.
Each email includes an easy option to rate the outfit as “Love”, “It’s Ok” or “Dislike” and the team uses my daily responses to continue curating my style preferences so, theoretically, I begin to love each and every outfit they send me. After all the algorithms, statistical analysis, and data mining (I have no idea how they curate suggestions, I made that all up), they successfully used their detective skills to sniff out my professional style taste. As of late, I love nearly every outfit idea that pops up in my inbox.
Today (and tomorrow, because I’m feeling an extra burst of StyleUp love) I share with you the outfit idea I received and my corresponding interpretation of their suggestion. I love purple and gray together and, for some crazy reason, never thought to wear these two pieces together until StyleUp reminded me they would make a great pair. Thank you StyleUp! I received my outfit idea a couple of weeks ago when the steamy humidity invaded Chicago. Since then, the hot weather hit the road and left us with cold rain (I haven’t decided which is worse). But Mother Nature (or my weenie tolerance for being cold) demanded I add black tights to keep my legs warm and cozy. I suspect you can still see the resemblance.
Style Sidenote: If only my hair flowed so perfectly as hers. But this model likely had a professional stylist methodically taming her tresses while I resorted to a Goody hair elastic frantically wrapped around my mane by a half-asleep accountant (me) in the early morning hours. We can’t have it all…
So there you have another great brainchild of internet fashionistas crossing into the techie start-up world and providing another solution to our oh-so-pressing what-to-wear morning conundrum. Let me know if you sign up and love the emails as much as I do!
