Enjoying some family time, we took an hour on Sunday to walk to the beach and let The Little Guy play in the sand. I snapped a few photos before we left, and then also took a couple quick pictures at the beach after I’d thrown my hair up for the heat.
I wore this dress a month or so ago on another hot day and decided to add a belt today. What a difference the belt makes?! I did not love how the dress looked the first time I wore it, but I am a much bigger fan of the dress when belted. The Man even ask (unsolicited), “Is that dress supposed to be worn with a belt? It looks a lot better.” I don’t think the designer necessarily intended a belt to be required, but it surely suits the dress on me. You can see that with a belt, I lose an inch or two in length. As a casual daytime dress, though, the shorter length didn’t bother me.
It took me a good while to jump on the belt bandwagon. I had the same issue with blazers. For some reason, I never felt they looked right on me. But I have since been “enlightened” and now have an array of belts hanging in my closet. I ALWAYS scan the belt section every time I visit a thrift shop, because I never know when I’ll find a gem for $1.99 with the power to transform a plethora of outfits. Especially for someone like me with an hourglass shape, it typically behooves me to either ensure the outfit has a defined waist or create one with a belt, for example. And for any body shape, a belt always adds an element of interest and a layer of depth. It’s crazy how a great accessory can really take an outfit from boring to polished!
Speaking of accessories, I have been wearing these new sunglasses quite a bit recently. I finally got a good shot of the frames (normally the camera is not close enough to capture the pattern on the frames). Aren’t they awesome?!
