Remember how I’ve whined time and again about my roller coaster relationship with wrap dresses? Well, I’ve got some great news in the wrap dress department. I think I’ve met my match.
If you’re new to the scene and looking for a little back story on the “love/hate thing” wrap dresses and I have endured, check out my break up letter with wrap dresses, our most recent reconciliation, and a few of my more complicated feelings about the whole ordeal.
While I still have ongoing relationships with my other wrap dresses on the side, this one is the real deal. We’ve agreed we won’t be exclusive, but I expect we’ll spend a lot of time together.
She hails from Of | Mercer and has a few unique characteristics that make her different from ‘all the rest’ of the many wrap dresses residing in my closet. Let me dote on her for a minute.
Unlike many wrap dresses whose ties start around the waist and wrap around the waist straight away, this one tie starts from a little higher up on the dress. Consequently, the fabric tie slides through a slit under the arm instead of at waist level. This helps the two pieces that cross in front provide more cleavage coverage, which you know was one of my biggest gripes about traditional wrap dresses.
You can see just the tiniest bit of my bra through the slit. I didn’t lose much sleep over this considering I don’t often raise my hand at work. I’m not exactly in middle school anymore.
The fabric ties are quite a bit longer than most of my other wrap dresses. This seems to help ensure the ties stay tight throughout the day. While I often find myself retying my wrap dresses at my desk, this one didn’t budge. The tight hold adds another layer of protection to prevent unintended sneak peeks of cleavage.
I’ve also offered my fair share of complaints about the ease with which wind can blow a wrap dress in all the wrong directions. The fabric panels on this dress overlap more than many of my other dresses, making below the belt exposure less likely.
Also (and I was very proud of this), I dug out from the deepest depths of my drawer the shapewear shorts about which I’d completely forgotten for far too long. These bad boys are super comfortable and provide so much peace of mind. I’ve been wearing them on repeat (with washing, of course) with all of my wrap dresses now. Covering up to my mid-torso, the shapewear shorts also provide some tummy slimming tricks and smooth out any lines under the dress. They’re basically gold!
They’re a bit pricey but, in my opinion, totally worth it. I’m a believer in ‘ya get what ya pay for’. (If you’re curious about sizing, I’m 5’6″ and wearing a size M. It fits me perfectly.)
So that’s that! I’ve got a new wrap dress fling that’s heating up courtesy of Of | Mercer, and I’m diggin’ it!
For those interested in more stylish wear-to-work options, definitely check out Of | Mercer. Basically, two young professional women searched for stylish, affordable and conservative office apparel. Unsatisfied with their options, they set out to solve the problems for themselves and the rest of us. Thus was born awesome professional attire for young women by young women. That’s a tune to which I can sing (if I could sing… )!
