Size Doesn't Matter | My $20 Brand New DVF Dress

A couple of weeks ago, we talked about getting serious with respect to thrifting. As promised, I’m sharing one of the dresses I recently pulled from the thrift store racks that more than surprised me. I’ve been wanting for a while to find a great Diane Von Furstenberg (“DVF”) dress to see if it’s really worth all the hype. (I know her wrap dresses are her signature pieces, but I’ve shared that wrap dresses and I are currently on a break.) None-the-less, I presume they’re all they’re cracked up to be, but sometimes you just want to know for yourself.

So as I patiently scanned through the rows and rows of dresses at The Salvation Army, the appearance of this DVF dress, brand new with tags still attached and a price tag of $20, shocked me. I quickly pulled it from the rack and noticed the tag read a few sizes larger than what I normally wear. I’m still trying this on, I thought. It looks about my size. And worst case, I can always send it into Thredup and probably receive more for the dress than what I paid for it.

I inspected the dress with great diligence wondering why it sat on this shelf. Further, why did it not get flagged as a “Boutique” item, the section of The Salvation Army for higher-end brands that are sold at slightly higher (though still very affordable) prices?

No matter all the whys, it ended up in my basket. I tried it on and it fit perfectly. And I took it home to add to my personal style collection. Score – score – score!

And about that tag, who the heck cares?! For all I know, the tag could be wrong. And even if it’s not, the dress fits me. Honestly, I really don’t care what size it says. It doesn’t change my body or my happiness. I love the print, how comfortable it is, and that I got to buy a high-quality item at a discount price. One more investment piece for my closet that will surely last a while and remix like a champ!
