Thanks to Calaphya for sponsoring this post. All opinions are entirely my own.
On many occasions, I choose a single piece from my closet that I want to wear. Maybe it’s something I haven’t worn in a while, something I’ve been inspired to try to remix, or just something I love and will find perfectly comfortable for the day.
At times, that’s just one piece of a more complex outfit. At other times, however, I chose a piece that will not just contribute to the outfit, but be the outfit, make the outfit. A statement piece! My shirt today is just that, the definition of a statement piece. Calaphya was kind enough to offer me an opportunity to showcase one of their lovely shirts that transitions fabulous art into timeless style. Calaphya hails from good ol’ California and strives to bring you gorgeous investment pieces manufactured in limited editions (there are only 500 of the shirt I’m wearing today) that will last a long while in your closet.
Head on over and check out several other beautiful collections of limited edition pieces that have become wearable art. Several items, including my shirt, which is from the Esplandian collection, are currently on sale! Still in search of that special, unique holiday gift for someone who has everything? This could make a great one-of-a-kind gift that I’m quite certain she won’t see on the woman sitting next to her at the office!
To celebrate my new statement piece, let’s touch on a few simple ways to style a statement piece for the office. Hopefully, you’ll love at least one and can grab that statement piece from your closet and style the heck out of it too.
Wear it with all Black
So it doesn’t necessarily have to be black, but you can’t go wrong pairing it with a solid neutral canvas, effectively. For my Calaphya shirt, black was the obvious choice. But brown, gray or cream, for example, could work well too depending on the color of your statement piece.
Pair with one color pulled from the statement piece
I chose magenta and have highlighted this option in today’s post. Small amounts of the bright pink shade are scattered throughout the statement sweater. I highlighted these tones in the shirt but pairing it with a solid colored magenta skirt. Notice I avoided patterns and prints on the skirt. Surely style pros could find a way to make that combination work, but I’m sticking with simple strategies for today.
Wear over a chambray or basic button down
A chambray seems to be the ultimate neutral piece. It somehow matches everything. So on a cold day demanding layers or a crisp fall day just yearning for a bit of extra interest, toss on a button down or chambray under the statement shirt for a little added interest and dimension. While I wouldn’t consider this dress a statement piece, I executed the same strategy to add some depth to the outfit.
Spice up jeans and and flats for Casual Friday
If we thought chambray matched everything, what doesn’t work with a pair of jeans in some capacity?! Jeans and flats scream casual Friday in my office. So with jeans and flats as simple starting points, add an amazing statement piece that can transition right to happy hour with a pair of heels and a snazzy clutch!
Add a cardigan or blazer
A cardigan and a blazer, informally known as completer pieces, are just that. They add interest, depth and a nice finishing touch to so many outfits. Just be sure to keep the completer piece relatively simple so it doesn’t compete with the statement piece (unless you’re a fashion pro, but I’m not, so that’s out of my comfort zone).
How do you wear statement pieces? I’d love to hear any other ideas. The more the merrier! If you have an example, link to it in your comment so we can check it out.
This week, I loved the gorgeous (and seemingly comfortable!) red dress that Jenna, from Sincerely Jenna Marie, shared. Although it’s not a Calaphya shirt, this amazing red dress certainly makes a statement!
Not only do I love the color and the fit, it transitions so well from the office to a happy hour and then on to a holiday party for this very festive time of year. Just such a great dress to have in her arsenal! Stop on over to see what else Jenna’s wearing. She always has such great style.
