For several years, my yogini mom, who I mentioned last week, has been running in the Lifetime Triathlon in the city in which they live. As a cancer survivor, she found community in the team with whom she trains and races. And she raises some series funds for them each year! After several years of completing the Sprint triathlon, she opted for and finished the Olympic length triathlon last year. (Don’t worry, I think she’s crazy too… you can think it. Ha.)
The first year she joined, most of my sisters, M and I signed up to join her. The sprint length isn’t so bad, and we were all in pretty good shape at the time. Just weeks before the scheduled date of the triathlon, I began my three years of lots of surgeries I’ve mentioned before. Needless-to-say, I cheered them on from the sidelines. And my committed mom beat all my sisters and M with her fairly impressive final time. (I don’t recall what it was, so if you’re an exercise junkie and a triathlon time means something to you more than the hours and minutes of time to completion, you’ve lost me…)
