I return again with another suggestion on how you can use Pinterest to stretch your wardrobe and spark that creative Genius. Last I checked, mine lingers in the back corner of the closet awaiting a kiss from her handsome prince to awake her from her sweet slumber. And since I’ve been on a major ReDress kick this week and have accepted (from myself) an adventure in socially conscious shopping, I’m gonna need my creative Genius to wake up and step up.
Peruse For A Particular Piece
When you just can’t figure out how to style that one problematic item in your closet that you love on the hanger but for which you can’t find suitable companions to make an entire outfit, take a stab at finding a great way to execute a stylish look with Pinterest’s new Guided Search tool.
(Team Pinterest even made a sort of sappy but also sweet video to share with you about Guided Search – how nice of them.)
Speaking of Guided Search (which is a not-so-creepy way of saying “we’ll read your mind and guess what you want and likely be right” search), it’s sometimes a bit scary how so many aspects of computers can anticipate our thoughts and needs. Google knows me better than my mom, and sometimes maybe better than I know myself. (You know how you start to type something into the search bar, not exactly sure what keywords you should use, when the perfect suggestion from Google pops up at the top of the list while your brain is still busting its butt just to collect and organize its thoughts…) And now Pinterest thinks they have a knack for digging into my daydreaming. Let’s not fool ourselves, they’re probably right. Are we really that predictable??? But I digress…
Back to my floral bomber jacket that just left me at a loss. I’d tried it with about eight gazillion different outfits and just couldn’t land on anything I loved. So I typed “floral bomber jacket style” into the Search box and came up with a few suggestions, none of which I loved. I played around (for about 30 seconds) with different keywords and ultimately landed on these two pins of looks I loved.

My take-aways to incorporate into my look, a combination of the two above:
Skinny jeans, rolled at the ankles | Push up sleeves
Loosely fitted shirt under the jacket | Flat casual canvas shoes*
*Do people really wear heels like that to run errands? Maybe if they are 25, but not at my age with two little boys to chase around, so heels were out, even though they look great on her.
So after much ado about nothing (it’s just a jacket), I finally found a look I liked with the jacket that captured my heart on the rack and turned out to be more stubborn than I had anticipated upon arriving at home. Have you been proactive about utilizing Pinterest to solve a particular style mystery? Or do you generally wait for something amazing to show up in your Feed and then tackle the inspiration challenge?
