As I continue to praise Pinterest for its “Pinspiration” capabilities, here’s another quick way I use the ingenious product (that I wish I had invented) to get dressed each day.
Familiar Patterns and Fabrics
Find outfits incorporating pieces that match fabrics or patterns already in your closet.
In my interpretation, I had a polka dot blouse and a striped pencil skirt so I produced a nearly copycat version. But this could have worked with any two pieces with similar sized stripes and polka dots. Using Pinterest in this fashion tackles not only Basic Remixing 101 but also could be a great way to step up the style fluency with fancy pattern mixing, something that still leaves me stumped on many occasions.
Beads (of your choice)
Hexnuts (from the hardware store)
Lay the beads and hexnuts out to determine your pattern of choice, thread the elastic cord through each piece, and tie in a double knot (in accordance with package instructions). I also added a dab of fabric glue to each knot to give it a bit of extra hold, which is optional.
Really, this couldn’t be easier ~ such an easy pop of color! And it’s SOOO much more affordable than buying similar stretchy bracelets at a clothing store (at least in my experience). So stop by your favorite art store (with your 40% off coupon or when the beads are on sale), steal a few hexnuts from your toolbox (or someone else’s, if tools aren’t your thing), and make yourself some bracelets while you watch the most recent episode of your favorite TV show. Then put the money you saved in your bank account!
