Today I played around a bit with a bright green skirt I snagged from a thrift shop a few months ago (Savers, I believe). I thought the color might pose some challenges but it grabbed my attention and I liked it, so I followed my instinct and took it home with me. As always, I tried to remix this piece in ways I could wear casually and to work. I also gave my best effort at mixing with lots of colors, and despite my initial concerns about the color, I think it’s more versatile that I expected.
An easy summer look for the office.
I mixed a few patterns here, but sticking with the same color scheme pulls them all together.
A casual take on the blue top version above I threw together for the office. As I have been experimenting with my clothes, I have learned that adding a necklace to this look can add a nice finishing touch to keep it from being too boring while not interfering with comfort.
A look for the beach with the same skirt I also dressed up for the office? Nice!
Here I created another look for the office. I loved the quick twist to the belt that added an element of interest to the skirt. And who doesn’t love pink and green?!
I wanted to include an office look with a shirt that was not tucked into my skirt. The finished look of this shirt allows me to wear it tucked or untucked. And because the shirt has a touch of sheer to it, it’s not too hot for the summer.
Here is my favorite iteration – not necessarily because of the result but because it’s a bit out of my comfort zone and I loved it more than I anticipated. (And I got to wear a self-made necklace ~ any outfit with a self-made piece gets a bonus point automatically.) This belt entered my closet years ago and I rarely found a way I liked wearing it. Now I can’t wait for the right day to wear this out to lunch with friends or maybe even the office on a casual day.
This combination is pretty simple yet high on comfort, and I loved the color combination.
It’s certainly a summer color skirt, but I think with the right mix, it can work for a fall look as well. My trusty tights and boots that I have come to know well living in Chicago stretch this skirt’s life by several months each year.
And finally, a super casual warmer look that, like the option above, add so much life to the skirt after the weather cools around here.
Hopefully you find at least one look that inspires a new option in your closet! Let me know what you think or if you have any other ideas to share.
