I found this dress at a thrift shop and immediately fell in love with it ~ the fabric, the pattern, the colors, the whole darn thing… except the hideous sleeves! Who wore this?! To be honest, the sleeves look even bulkier and frumpier in person than in the picture below. I knew I could easily refashion the dress to remove the sleeves, so I tossed the gem into my basket and took it home with me. It sat in my closet for a couple of months until I found time to complete the project, and I absolutely LOVE the finished product. Finding great pieces like this that can be slightly modified to become something wonderful keep me returning to sift through racks at thrift stores regularly. I don’t recall specifically, but I’m sure I paid less than $10 for it. And a little TLC made it a unique, priceless piece in my arsenal.
I wore it to a girls’ night party recently on a hot and humid day and loved the light and breezy feel of the dress. I don’t know if anything could have kept me cool in that weather, but this sure did better than just about anything else in my closet.
