By special request from a reader, I’m finally sharing a look with my over-the-knee boots paired with a dress. I have paired them with a dress a few times, but those looks haven’t made it to the blog quite yet.
I’ve had a bit of trouble styling the boots with dresses, primarily dresses that work for work. In order for boots and dresses to work together, the skirt should end at a distinctly different length than where the boots start.
The skirt could be meaningfully shorter or longer than the top of the boots. But when the hem of the skirt or dress and top of the boots are near each other, the look often feels a little mismatched. The two pieces compete.
In this look, you can see the dress is short enough that the hemline doesn’t compete with the boots. It could also work if the bottom of the skirt or dress was a few inches below the top of the boots.
Are you a fan of over-the-knee boots? Do you pair them with pants or skirts and dresses? I’d love to hear your comments and any other style tips you have for these trendy kicks.
