That’s right. Move over Mr. Melvil Dewey. This librarian is here to challenge your decimal system.
Ok… maybe not. I may not have nailed down a new organization system the keeps most of the world’s libraries from spiraling out of control, but I did channel my inner librarian through a time warp to the 1950’s.
On both of these mornings, I initially opted for yoga pants and a hoodie. Upon further review, it became clear that wasn’t gonna fly in my office. Instead, I clamored up enough style energy to piece together these numbers. If I didn’t have enough motivation to really give getting dressed a good ol’ college try, then why not choose this retro/vintage path far less traveled (at least not so familiar to my Oxford emblazoned tootsies).
Maybe it’s the pussy bow or the oxfords, who knows. Something about this outfit reminds me of the librarians from my elementary school days. I’m not sure how old they were, but they felt ancient at the time. That probably means they were about sixty, not so old in the grand scheme of life but basically dinosaurs to a seven year old.
If I feel like these outfits reflect librarians from the early 1990’s, they probably aren’t the best outfit choices for looking hip and trendy; except that vintage is trendy, right? In any case, I wore it and survived to tell about it.
If you head to my archives, those rows and rows of dusty old things up on the kind of dark top floor, you’ll see I also wore this dress with my trusty yellow cardigan and cognac boots. I shared in that post how I paid $7.99 for this vintage Magaschoni dress, which I suspect landed in the thrift shop because of its feisty buttons.
Many of you can relate to the gaping style dilemma when spaces open between buttons to reveal your unmentionables. It’s most often associated with button down shirts, but it can spread to any top with buttons and potential for revealing unmentionables you’d rather keep to yourself.
The dress required a quick DIY fix (the second project in this DIY post) to sew those bad boys right up, and now I’m good to go. Time to go sneak a bite of chocolate (or two or three or four) while hiding out in the stacks.
Dress – Magaschoni (thrifted via Goodwill) | Cardigan – Banana Republic | Blazer – Sag Harbor (via Savers) | Tights – Target | Shoes – Enzo Angiolini (via Saks Off 5th)
