I thrifted this dress from a resale site, ThredUp, about which I have posted in the past. I snagged this very bright Lilly Pulitzer dress from the site a couple of months ago and wore it walking around the city and hanging out with The Little Guy on a very warm spring day (one of about three that we had).
During the heat spell of last week, I bravely / stupidly gathered up the confidence to wear this slightly short and casual number to the office. As I’ve mentioned before, the office is more casual in the summer when it’s not that busy and it was just so friggin’ hot I could not stand the thought of heavier garb for the walk to and fro. So, a preppy floral dress and cardigan with the other necklace my mom snagged for me for my birthday helped me exceed my “green quota” for the week.
I expect an array of methods exists for putting together an outfit. But I generally start by selecting one item I know I want to wear and then building a combination around that piece. In this case, the dress became my focal point. I stood in my closet scanning for the perfect blazer to wear over the dress when the bright green sweater caught my attention and proved to be the perfect fit. Sweet! Sorry blazers, maybe another day. The emerald necklace became an easy addition, and I quickly grabbed a pair of neutral shoes so not to compete with the already very bright and busy palette.
Do you have a favorite method for creating an outfit? On uninspired days, I don’t hesitate to let Pinterest share some inspiration (or..shhh..wear yoga pants and a tank top and skip photos…gasp. Take a breath, we’ve all done it on many occasions. You’re not alone.)
Alright, I’m out for now. “See” you all tomorrow!
