Today I bring you another summer outfit that, as usual, requires two versions: one for the warm walk to and from the office and the other for a cool day sitting in my cube under fancy florescent lights pounding away in Excel. (You’re not jealous of my job, you say?! Despite all my sarcastic jokes, I do actually like what I do and don’t spend my WHOLE day in Excel…).
Want in on a couple of secrets today? I have three I am willing to share with you:
1. This tweed skirt was only $12 on clearance at Target! Doesn’t it look so much more high end than a steal from the 30% off rack at my favorite store ever (where I always plan to spend $20 and end up spending $150 – every.single.trip…with.out.fail)? Impulse purchases like this skirt are the biggest culprits for my higher than anticipated tabs at the register. Or maybe it’s my lack of will power to avoid the clothing section. But I’m blaming it on the clothes screaming for my attention (and dollars) when all I really need is a new bottle of shampoo and some toothpaste.
2. I wear glasses to work almost every day (and most days home with The Little Guy). I wore them above with the blazer and liked how they looked. Maybe the glasses added a touch of sophistication to my librarian look. For the photos, I typically take them off leaving me with horribly terrible vision, at best. But only the camera needs to be able to focus for my snazzy photo shoots, right? Who cares what I can see (except when I’m taking self-portraits in a quiet urban alley and a homeless man heads in my direction – glasses might be helpful…). Maybe I should get those Crystal Cristina’s after all…
3. I think I forgot to brush my hair the day I took these photos. I realized this as I walked to work. Sometimes it’s easier to wash my hair at night and let it air dry before laying my head on the pillow. I certainly ran my fingers through it a handful of times, but I think that maxed out my efforts. I mentioned the other day that my hair doesn’t curl (or do anything for that matter) despite any effort I may exude. So I guess my straight locks repaid me (and my laziness) this morning for the hard earned “curls” they stole in Miami. It seems like a relatively fair trade off.
We all have blogger photo secrets, right? Anything you’re willing to share?
