I walked into my closet and looked around in search of an outfit for the day. The maroon dress captured my attention and I gathered the shirt, belt and shoes to finish off the look. (I store my jewelry elsewhere and it’s typically round two of getting dressed in the morning. But don’t worry necklace, you’re equally as important to the outfit, not just an after-thought.) I looked in the mirror to assess my attire and ensure it made the grade, and I realized this look appeared to be more inspired by fall than the middle of a generally hot and humid Chicago summer. Given the cooler fall-like temperatures as of late, this made a lot of sense!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining at all! As long as this cool weather doesn’t plan to set us up for an early return to an awful winter, fall is my favorite season and I will celebrate an extra long fall every day that it hangs around. It has put quite a damper on The Man’s weekly beach volleyball games on the shore of Lake Michigan. But I also can walk to work without feeling like I need to take a full blown shower before sitting down at my desk. And I already mentioned how I absolutely LOVE a crisp sunny morning.
I still relish in eating the sweet strawberries and perfect local peaches of the summer. My taste buds aren’t yet ready for caramel apples and candy corn. For now, though, I plan to enjoy every crisp morning, warm afternoon, and cool evening to the fullest.
I think it’s been unseasonably cool in many parts of the country. Have you pulled out any of your fall clothes yet?
