Are you a good listener, like a real listener, not just a “hearer”? Many of us could afford to toughen up our listening skills, and I’m certainly no exception. I’m not the worst listener nor the best. But in this new series, I’d like to turn the tables a bit. I spend a lot of time in my little blog world sharing about me. Now I want to “listen” and learn about you. Each edition, I pose a question, offer my thoughts, and look forward to hearing more about you and where you stand, how you feel, what sparks your gears. I hope you’ll join in the conversation by sharing your comments, perspectives, opinions, and the like so I can get to you know you through these casual, virtual “coffee house conversations.”
We’ll start the series with a softball, an easy question but one that I hope will give me lots of new ideas. Simply:
What’s on your reading list?
I wrote previously about the importance of reading to each of our personal and professional development and the cliche-but-true “leaders are readers” motto. Remember I said I wanted to read six books this year? I did it! And with five months to spare. Some might argue reaching my goal just over half way through the year indicates my goal wasn’t much of a stretch. This year, though, proved to be an outlier. And, honestly, the prospects for reading fitting into my schedule for the rest of the year are much lower than the previous seven months (especially the last three on maternity leave).
But none-the-less, I’d still like to squeeze in a couple more books before year end. And for the cost of a whopping $0, the prospect of that happening just went up a million-fold (yep, a million) when Goodreads gave me a free copy of the audiobook #Girlboss!
Never heard of Goodreads? I just added a link to my Goodreads profile over to the left in my social media icon bar, so if you’re ever dying to find out what I’ve read, am reading, or can’t wait to dive into, you’re just a click away! (I know ~ You’ve been holding your breath hoping for that link for ages. Well, hold your breath no more!)
But back to #Girlboss, I listed the book in my Want to Read category in my Goodreads profile. Among many other things, Goodreads works with authors and publishing companies to promote various books. So in an effort to promote #Girlboss and knowing I was an interested target, I get to “read” (listen… attentively…and practice my listening skills I suppose) for free. And their ploy worked! I took the bait and now am sharing about it with all of you. Kudos to social media.
If you want to see everything else, aside from #Girlboss, on my my wishlist of books to read at some point in the sort of near future, head on over to my Goodreads profile and check it out.
But now for you – what’s on your reading list? What can’t you wait to bury your nose in? Tell me all about what you want to read and why the books seem so intriguing!
