You know socially responsible brands can be hard to find. Often, when you do find them, they aren’t really that cool. Also, they’re rarely producing pieces you can feel great wearing to the office. Today, I’ve got a brand for you that bucks that trend.
Consistent with my mission to help you find these diamonds in the rough, let’s talk about La Fille Colette. This up-and-coming brand based in Boston strives to be just that brand for which you’re searching.
Let’s get down to business and find out if this Made in the USA, socially responsible dress might be just the piece you need to add to your closet.
Name: La Fille Colette
Story: A lifelong student of fashion, the founder, Colette, strives to support the slow fashion movement by providing high-quality, easy to wear and fashionable pieces that will find a long-term home in your closet. You can read more about the details of her journey through fashion and her passion as an artist.
Work Wear Styles Available: The brand currently offers a handful of dresses. This Penelope dress I’m wearing (in merlot, and also offered in black) is the best work wear piece in the collection. Many of the other pieces are a bit fancier. Some could certainly be worn to the office with a blazer or sweater.
Note: The merlot Penelope dress is currently unavailable but more sizes are coming soon, so don’t be nervous about the limited sizing available right now. You can sign up to be the first to know when they’re back in stock. Ah, the troubles with being popular!!
My Experience: I really love the feel and quality of this dress. The fabric is a perfectly soft and stretchy one that I can wear all day.
I also love the versatility of the style and the details of the geometric shapes, which I think offer a unique touch not often seen in many pieces.
The dress is quite fitted and made for very evenly proportioned bodies. I’m typically a size 4 or small on top and a size 6 or medium on the bottom. Consequently, I’m a bit in between sizes with this dress. I originally had a small and exchanged it for a medium and this confirmed, as expected, I’m between sizes.
If you typically wear the same sizes on top and bottom and have a straight or hourglass body shape, I think you’d love this dress! If instead, you have more of an apple or pear shaped body or tend to wear different sizes on top and bottom, you might have trouble wearing this dress without alterations.
I worked directly with Colette when exchanging my dress. She was wonderful, and definitely offered the personal touch we all love when working with growing brands.
And of course, the color is absolutely perfect for fall!
